Knockin on the President’s Door!

So, you want to tell the Government what you really think about their plans and abilities? Well…the floor is open!

The South African government is reaching out via social media to the nation in an attempt to “stimulate a constructive Nation Building debate on values and ethics”. The debate started from the 28th of March and is ending tommorow on the 1st of April on the Presidency’s Facebook page.

This national outreach program has been created by the National Planning Commission (NPC), a body chaired by the Minister in The Presidency for National Planning, Trevor Manuel. The NPC has been tasked with developing a draft long term Vision Statement and Strategic National Plan 2025 for South Africa.

At present, there are 9 358 people who “Like” the Presidency’s Facebook page, but it seems likely that this campaign will increase the numbers considerably. On Twitter, the official Presidency account has 10 800 followers and tweets regularly to the nation.

So if you have any good ideas on nation building, this is your chance to get onto your favourite social media platform and share them with the people who can help get them implemented.

Dell Mabunda new Good Hope FM Campus DJ

The winner of the second Good Hope FM Campus DJ search was announced on Thursday, 24 March 2011 during the Afternoon Drive with Guy McDonald show on Good Hope FM.

Dell Mabunda, studying a BSc MS degree at the University of Stellenbosch is the second winner in the annual competition, and also the second female, to win a one year on-air DJ contract on Good Hope FM. Dell will now undergo a training process and will soon be offered a slot on air where she will present a show.

From mid February this year Good Hope FM gave students at various campuses across the Peninsula the opportunity to win an on-air DJ contract on the station during the second Good Hope FM Campus DJ search.

The aim of this search was to find the best on air DJ from campuses around the city. Campuses that agreed to participate in this search were the University of the Western Cape (UWC), Stellenbosch University, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Cape Town and Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Bellville. Students from other independent tertiary institutions and those who had not been able to attend their campus’ search were given another opportunity to enter at the N1 City Shopping Centre.

“Good Hope FM management is continually on the lookout to discover young fresh talent who aspire to be in the broadcasting industry and who can be added to the already dynamic line-up. Many of Good Hope FM’s well established DJ’s like Guy McDonald, Nigel Pierce and Sean O cut their broadcasting teeth on campus radio” says Good Hope FM Programme Manager, Gerard Muller.

The five finalists - Sikhombiso Mangcu (SK) from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Dominic Neill and Dell Mabunda, both from University of Stellenbosch, Yolanda Pilane from the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Julian Wenn from CPUT Bellville battled it out on air in their fight till the bitter end, co-hosting That Radio Show presented by Ebrahiem Inglis (Mondays to Thursdays from 22:00 to 02:00), until the 21st of March.

The process worked the same as in 2010 and any student who considered themselves well versed, informed and conversational, with a pinch of attitude and heaps of enthusiasm was looked at during the visits to the campuses. Each campus was visited over two days. The first day being an open MIC session, where anyone brave enough could try out whilst a panel of judges chose a group of finalists. On day two, the finalists from that venue got to try out again in order for the panel of judges to then choose one person representing their campus in the final, on-air leg of this competition.

“The Good Hope FM Campus DJ search in 2010 was such a huge success and when the worthy winner, Nosipo Tisani from CPUT Cape Town, was selected the station realised that there was so much untapped talent at the various tertiary institutions, that this search had to be made an annual event” says Good Hope FM’s Marketing Manager, Meegan Kieffer.

The aim of this search was again to find the best on air DJ from campuses around the city, and at N1 city for some wild card entries. Dell Mabunda from University of Stellenbosch was the finalist from that venue and is now the worthy winner of the 2011 Good Hope FM Campus DJ Search. The team at Good Hope FM wishes Dell all the best and look forward to hear her on air.

The 2010 winner, Nosipo Tisani from CPUT, will continue to host her show on Good Hope FM and an additional timeslot will be allocated to Dell once she has completed her training.

Looking for a New Idol in Soweto

Historic first for Idols!

For the first time ever in its seven-season history, Idols is holding auditions in Soweto this weekend. Auditions will take place at the Dobsonville stadium on Saturday, 26 March, and those talented performers who make it through the first round of auditions will be called back for another round on Sunday, 27 March.

“It’s the first time ever that Idols is going to any township, let alone the biggest township in South Africa, so the question is, do you want to be a part of history?” says Idols judge Unathi Msengana. “Don’t sleep on your dreams,” she cautions. “Imagine if our next Idol comes from right under our nose in Dobsonville!”

Gauteng auditions continue over the first weekend in April, with the final auditions for Idols Season 7 being held at Montecasino in Johannesburg.

The crème de la crème of the Soweto auditions will go straight through to the Montecasino auditions the following week to sing for the formidable Idols judging panel of Randall Abrahams, Gareth Cliff and Unathi Msengana and special celebrity guest judge, HHP.

These two Gauteng audition sessions are the final auditions for Idols Season 7, after a countrywide audition tour that took in Cape Town, Durban, and in another historic first, Polokwane.

So far 64 Golden Tickets have been handed out for the grueling Theatre Phase of the competition at Sun City next month. Does Gauteng have what it takes to match the impressive numbers tallied up in the other cities?

Khanyi Mbau to write a book

The South African socialite is hoping her autobiography hits the stands in August and the writer, Lesley Mofokeng, has described it as "an engaging piece of literature".

We expect her to reveal how she manages to convince all her sugar daddies to buy her big and expensive toys in the form of Lamborghini's.

She must also tell us what it is that she does for a living.

The big question though is will South Africans buy the book or not! Or will it be another flop like her music and acting careers? Only time will tell.

LOL, OMG, ♥ Added To The Oxford English Dictionary

The stalwart bastion of language, the Oxford English Dictionary, will now include ♥ and LOL as real words worthy of etymological recording. Other words added include the formidable OMG. As they say, 'words" like these "are strongly associated with the language of electronic communications," and have entered the mainstream because of how easy they are to use.

The Queen's lingo is really getting transformed and mordenised here, hey!

One hot club in Joburg: Randlords

For the uninitiated, Randlords is at Southpoint Towers, corner of De Korte and Station Streets, Braamfontein. Check out pics of this hangout for a visual taste of what it's like inside.

Some have compared stepping into the immaculate Randlords to Alice falling down the rabbit hole. At first glance the outdated 80's appeal of the exterior shot of Southpoint Towers does not give first time Randlords patrons any sort of indication of what lies on the 22nd and 23rd floor of the brown building

This nightclub consists of a mash-up of very different décor and detailing that somehow happens to work well, including a minimalist new-age chromed-detailed open plan first floor with a panoramic view of the gritty urban jungle; immaculate and inspiring lighting above the bar; a fairytale-like ladies bathroom reminiscent of Dita von Teese's style; a huge suspended seat made out of waist belts; and an amazing rooftop to enjoy the city's skyline - to name a few.

Question: What you think the beds are for (seen in the picture above)? In a Club nogal! We think the South Point had funny ideas when they developed this place.

Anyhow, Campus Vibe is going to organize killer gigs at this joint later on this year. It's going to get crazy. Watch this space!

Where the Vibe is at this weekend: Amstel Golden Hour

Baby just shake your bum bum, "singing"

Picture it. The electrifying Zakes Bantwini, in an unbeatable combination with Tumelo delivering his smooth house vocals, supported by the DJ’ing prowess of Dj Notti and the legendary Clive Bean– all on one stage at one of Soweto’s most iconic landmarks – under the Orlando Towers, at Chaf Pozi.

Following the Valentine’s weekend RJ Benjamin and Uju success, the second Amstel Golden Hour Soweto Sessions on Saturday the 26th of March will see Zakes, Tumelo, DJ Notti and Clive Bean taking the stage from 14h00 until 20h00

The Amstel Golden Hour Soweto Sessions is a proud Amstel Lager initiative. This long-running concert series will bring music lovers closer to some of the hottest local music acts. It’s a showcase for both established and up-and-coming music talent in a park setting. So, bring your braai, blanket and enjoy the cold Amstel Lager on offer in the beautiful surroundings of Chaf Pozi, Orlando Towesr.

Tickets are available from www.ticketbreak.co.za for R30 and R50 at the gate.

Looking forward to a great time in the ghetto!

Our Cricketers with their beautiful girlfriends

With the cricket happening right now, some of you are probably wondering if our boys are getting "some" while pitting their skills against the world's best out in Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka.

We've got out top batsmen and their other halves. Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis.

This is Jacques Kallis and Shamone Jardim, his girlfriend at the moment. Kallis has had most prolific girlfriends than most other cricketers around the world and Cindy Nel - former Miss South Africa was one of them.

Graeme Smith’s new chick of choice is Irish singer, Morgan Deane. Little is known of their relationship, but apparently they have both changed their Facebook profile pics to include each other. (Channel24)

Five Gaddafi's lipsticked virgins Bodyguards

Libyan dictator, Moammar Gadhafi is already having his own version of heaven on earth by having an entourage of female supposedly virgin body guards that live and will die for him. What is up with that?

This is no joke fellas! Maybe a lot of you have not been paying attention to visuals you see in the media. Check out some interesting pictures of these gorgeous sistas in this article.

These guards are apparently graduates of an elite military academy in Tripoli that's solely for women. The academy's best students are dubbed "revolutionary nuns," and they never marry and dedicate their lives to the idea of Gadhafi's 1969 revolution. They're banned from having sex and swear an oath to protect the Libyan leader until death, if need be.

Perhaps our very own JZ (Msholozi) should follow in Gadhafi's footsteps. But then again, chances are the female guards would all be pregnant with Msholozi's babies before you can even blink.

Touch currently does Fridays 07:30 pm - 10:00 pm as well as Saturdays 06:00 pm - 08:00 pm. It's about damn time we push a bit of swag on weekday radio, don't you think?

If this is true then we wonder what uncle Glen and aunty Unathi are gonna be doing at the station. Could they be on their way out? Are they going to replace the tired Morning Jam team on breakfast? Hmmmm.................it's an interesting one!

Only time will tell. You just watch this space!

SuperSport is on the look out for 'Lady Rugga'

Do you know the difference between a tighthead and a rolling maul? Wanna have a TV gig while you're finishing off your studies?

If so, you could be just the lady SuperSport is on the hunt for – a sharp, sassy female rugby presenter whose first assignment will be at the Rugby World Cup in September.

Remember popular sports presenter, Robert Marawa of Metro FM and SuperSport fame also studied Law at Wits and then got bitten by the TV bug before he could finish his studies. So you never know where you could end up.

SuperSport is embarking on a Lady Rugga talent search, with auditions across the country aimed at finding a woman who is not only passionate about the game, but understands its nuances and is camera-friendly.

The Lady Rugga roadshow starts in Bloemfontein in April and will touch base in Pretoria, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

Entrants will be whittled down to a list of 12, to be determined by a judging panel of SuperSport’s rugby experts. Thereafter, they will feature on a one-hour weekly magazine programme in which they will be introduced to viewers and carry out rugby reporting assignments.

The number of finalists will be reduced each week until the grand announcement in May.

The winner will undergo training and join up with SuperSport’s Rugby World Cup team in New Zealand.

HOW IT WORKS

English-speaking contestants travel to venues in their region, register and then prepare to present a 30-second sound clip before the judges. In addition, they will have to do an off-the-cuff 30-second soundbite.

All auditions will be recorded, to assist the voting process.

After all eight auditions are held, a dozen finalists will be announced, after which this number will be whittled down each week.

The four Lady Rugga magazine shows will be broadcast on SuperSport in April and may.

Official Miller Rock the Boat video out

Miller Rock the Boat has just released the official video for 2010. According to Miller’s agency, Launch Factory Experiential, passengers on Miler Rock the Boat have been asking them about the video that was filmed on board during the cruise that took place last year. A lot of Campus Vibers wanted to cruise along but could not either because tickets were rather expensive or sold out.

Hopefully, after watching the video you’ll be inspired to start saving up for this year’s cruise as early as today.

Do tell us what you think of the video and the activities that took place on the cruise.

Enjoy!
